The Derby Conference Centre is proud to have retained its Silver Greengage ECOsmart accreditation, recognising our continued commitment to sustainability and responsible hospitality.

Retaining our Silver accreditation reflects the ongoing work our team invests in reducing our environmental impact while continuing to provide exceptional experiences for delegates, guests and event organisers.

What is Greengage ECOsmart?

Greengage ECOsmart is one of the hospitality industry’s leading sustainability accreditation programmes. It assesses venues across six key areas, including food and beverage, corporate social responsibility, energy and water, facilities management, building infrastructure and waste management.

Our latest assessment awarded The Derby Conference Centre an overall score of 68%, retaining Silver accreditation until July 2027.

A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re committed to continually improving the way we operate.

Since our previous assessment, we’ve increased our overall score by 14 percentage points, with significant improvements across several categories, including:

• Building Infrastructure
• Energy and Water
• Corporate Social Responsibility
• Rooms and Facilities Management

These improvements demonstrate the investment we’re making to create a more sustainable venue for conferences, meetings, overnight stays and corporate events.

Sustainability Across Our Venue

The latest assessment recognised a wide range of initiatives already in place throughout The Derby Conference Centre, including:

• Prioritising local food suppliers
• Providing between 11 and 20 electric vehicle charging points
• Implementing LED lighting throughout the venue
• Offering carbon free team building activities through GoTo Events
• Providing green meeting packages
• Operating with Zero Waste to Landfill certification
• Maintaining a documented food waste reduction policy
• Educating employees on sustainability and climate awareness

These initiatives help us reduce our environmental impact while supporting clients who want to make more sustainable choices when planning their events.

Giving Clients Greater Insight Into Their Events

As an ECOsmart accredited venue, we’re also able to offer clients access to the Greengage ECOsmart Impact Portal.

The portal enables conference and event organisers to access sustainability data relating to their event, including an estimated carbon footprint. This allows businesses to better understand the environmental impact of their meetings and conferences, support their own sustainability reporting and identify opportunities to make future events even more sustainable.

For organisations working towards environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives or wider sustainability goals, having access to this information provides valuable insight and demonstrates a shared commitment to responsible event management.
