Supporting the Raising Aspirations Programme

In April, we welcomed students from Swanwick School and Sports College to The Derby Conference Centre, for a behind the scenes tour, as part of the Raising Aspirations Programme through the Direct Education Business Partnership.

The pupils had a series of workshops delivered to them with the aims being:

• To prepare young people for adulthood with high aspirations for a fulfilling adult life

• To help students to develop career awareness and enable them to manage personal career development

For the final couple of sessions pupils worked alongside Matthew Hutchings, Managing Director of The Derby Conference Centre, also led a workshop at the school on employability, highlighting that there is a whole world of opportunity ahead of them.

With the percentage of people with learning difficulties currently in employment being only 6% nationally – we hope that by meeting with these students, and having an insight into the hospitality industry, it inspires them to know they can achieve anything that they put their minds to.
