How to utilise wedding showcases

Here we are again – 6 months have passed of 2022 and the wedding season is in full swing here at The Derby Conference Centre. In June we had the pleasure of hosting the wedding of the new Mr. & Mrs. Willmott after waiting 2 years for their day. Join me in wishing them a huge congratulations with their big day!

As we are preparing for our first ever wedding showcase in September, I wanted to use July’s wedding blog to put a focus on how you as a couple can utilise wedding showcases, open days and fayres all over the country. And how as a supplier you can benefit from booking a stall to exhibit your products and services.

Wedding showcase’s offer couples a fantastic opportunity to “try before you buy” by meeting multiple suppliers in one place. Of course, for suppliers attending a showcase or open day, you get the benefits of meeting clientele face-to-face and networking outcomes can be huge.

As a wedding venue in Derby, we have the privilege of working with reliable and professional wedding suppliers, that all put the clients first. We pride ourselves in making sure our preferred suppliers meet our standards and with our new Wedding Showcase we are introducing you to all of them!

Going to wedding shows is a brilliant way to get inspiration and meet different suppliers in all areas. If you have been reading our wedding blog since the start of the year, you will know I am a huge advocate of shopping around when it comes to finding the right supplier. I always encourage my couples to meet with several suppliers in each area, to make sure they connect with the person in charge for their photographs, cake, flowers, music and all the other little bits and bobs, you have at your wedding. Finding suppliers should take time and you should be comfortable with them all – after all, you will be working with them for 1-2 years during the planning stages of your special day.

If you search wedding showcase online, you are likely to find hundreds of options so where do you start? I am here to help, so if you want to get the most out of your time, do read on!

We are planning our wedding – where do we go?

First, you will probably want to consider how far you are willing to travel. As I mentioned, there are hundreds of wedding fayres all over the country, all of which will have different offerings. Not only will you have the major national wedding fayres, but also the smaller independent ones which are usually held at the wedding venues.

If you already have your venue booked, get in touch with your wedding coordinator to check when their next wedding showcase or open day is. This is a brilliant way to see how your venue looks when it is all set and to meet the suppliers your venue trust.

Are you a Derby Conference Centre couple or planning to be? Then I recommend going to our Wedding Showcase September 18th 2022. This will see the Derby Conference Centre filled with trusted suppliers. You will be able to meet the suppliers we use when you book your wedding with us. We will be displaying everything from venue décor and music to stationery and dresses.

Attending general wedding shows, can be chaotic but so worth it. With hundreds of suppliers, dress shows, samples, music and so much more, attending these big shows can be a way to compare suppliers in a quick and easy way. If you come with a plan of what suppliers you want to meet, and a clear vision of what you want for your wedding day, it is likely you can have all your suppliers booked by the end of the day.

Most suppliers will also be offering discounts for booking then and there, so with a bit of prep work, there could be lots of money to save by going to both independent and national wedding showcases.

Are you a supplier wanting to get out in front of potential clients?

One of the biggest concerns when it comes to attending a wedding showcase is: will it actually bring any business?

It makes perfect sense that this question comes up. After all, you are spending both your time and money and expect to get something back to make it worthwhile.

In my opinion there are 2 very good reasons why exhibiting at a wedding showcase is worthwhile.

Meet your clientele & brand awareness!

Spending a Sunday exhibiting means you get valuable face-to-face time with target market clientele. While some couples browse as they are only dipping their toes into the wedding planning pool, others will be very certain of their wishes and wants. Both groups allow you to connect with them and get bookings for the next few years.

You will be able to raise brand awareness with both guests and other suppliers. Personally, I believe networking is essential for all businesses. Meeting other suppliers does not necessarily mean you have to always compete. Yes, some of them will be direct competitors, but why not also see it as an opportunity to get collaboration partners for those big bookings you cannot do alone, or when you must turn away clients due to being fully booked? Recommending other suppliers, shows clients you are thinking of their needs and wants first, and they may just send a good recommendation your way in the future. Do not forget – it works both ways!

Do not just think of it as a wedding showcase! Although your main mission will be to book every available wedding date, you may just get a few clients that have other events coming up where your services are required. Everything is an opportunity.

As an independent wedding showcase, we offer suppliers a low cost for exhibiting with us and the opportunity to not only network with other suppliers, but also the chance to speak with DCC staff and the potential of getting on our preferred suppliers list.
