How to relieve stress when planning a wedding?
Are you all loving the sunshine as much as me?!
It is April and the wedding season at The Derby Conference Centre is in full swing. A massive congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Brown who got married at our gorgeous venue in March.
If you have been following us the past couple of months, you know what is coming!
While we enjoy the sunshine and blooming plants, April is also National Stress Awareness Month, so this month’s blog will focus on how to relieve and avoid stress when planning a wedding.
We all know planning a wedding can be very stressful – I have yet to meet a couple that will tell me otherwise! As a wedding coordinator part of my job is to take away some of that planning stress, so my couples can enjoy their time being engaged, but there is only so much I can do. If you are only starting out planning your wedding, you may be in for quite the wake-up call soon – especially when everyone wants to get their 2 pennies in!
The drag of covid, means more couples are affected by the stress of planning with multiple date changes, councils being backed-up making it impossible to secure a date and time for a ceremony, businesses going under and guest lists decreasing and increasing – not to mention the current inflation which has a big effect of couples booking suppliers. It is all enough to stress out even the calmest of couples!
BUT fret not my lovelies – help is coming your way. I am giving you my top tips to avoid and relieve stress when planning you wedding in Derby.
Embrace lists
I cannot say it enough – list, spreadsheets, booklets, and online platforms are your best friend when planning any kind of event but especially a wedding.
Make life easy for yourselves when you start to plan. Online planner tools are easy to come by and will tell you exactly what needs to be done and when you should do it, to stay on track with planning.
More of a pen and paper person? Get down to a stationary shop and purchase a new planner – did you know you can even get wedding specific ones?
Whatever your preferred form, sit down with your partner and talk through all those details. This is not the time to cut back! Write down all ideas and wishes – you can always cut back when you start your research, get quotes, and start to prioritise your needs and wants.
Having everything written down, will help you when your suppliers start asking you about number of guests, budget, menu choices and everything else that is involved in your wedding day.
Embrace the help
Help is available from all sides. Your venue may have a personal wedding coordinator included in the cost of hire, but if they do not, consider hiring a wedding coordinator to do most of the tasks. It can be a heavy hitter in your budget, but will nearly always be worth the money as they will deal with all your suppliers and organise everything – all you need to do is decide on colours, themes, menu choices etc. Sounds good right?
Here at The Derby Conference Centre, you will always have a dedicated wedding coordinator to help you with your wedding. Our all-inclusive packages, means you only need to deal with your registrar or church on your own. All other suppliers we can help source and we will deal with everyone directly if you want us to. And we will tell you exactly what we need from you and when – now THAT is stress relief!
Practice self-care
Now this could be a whole blog on its own if you ask me – after all, I am Danish and have Hygge embedded in my body!
Whether you are on top of your planning or not, a little self-care is needed for everyone, and in my opinion, it is one of the best ways to relieve stress! Self-care can be so many things, but as a tool for relieving wedding stress, it is important to do things both apart and together! Love going to the gym? Get those sessions in. Going to the cinema more your vibe? Pick and film and get going. And do not forget those all-important date nights to keep the sparks flying when the stress takes over.
Understandably, you are excited about your wedding and nearly everything you touch will get you to mention your wedding. So, I have a challenge for you – pick at least 1 day a week where you are not allowed to talk or think about your wedding!
Lives carry on and while you are excited about the planning process, your friends and family may not want to hear about it 24/7, so do not forget they all have things happening in their lives. Show an interest and forget your engaged and planning a wedding for just 1 day a week. It will relieve your stress with friends and family appreciating you taking an interest even though you have so many things going on.
Set boundaries!
Family and friends are often more than happy to help. You will probably find that everyone will pitch in with do’s and don’ts, and while it is always good to get advice, comments like “you have to allow my kids to come”, “you have to invite her because x, y, z”, or “you cannot have those colours, it is not traditional for a wedding” are not going to help you manage your stress.
Here is the thing – while you may not want to hurt anyone’s feelings, it is your day and setting boundaries will help you avoid stress and anxiety. Do not forget, this is YOUR wedding, and you should have it exactly how you want it.
So, there you have it – my tops tips on how to relieve stress when planning a wedding. Feel the stress leaving your body already?
And if you are still looking for a wedding venue why not get in touch today and let me help you start that stress-free planning with an all-inclusive package suitable to you and your partners wishes.
Yours truly
