We’re pleased to announce the launch of our brand new conferencing space, the ‘Douie Suite’. The private conferencing area comes as part of our £1 million refurbishment project, which began in 2016.

The Douie Suite is named after Bill Douie, the Chairman of the parent company RTC Group. The suite was unveiled at the annual RTC awards night and has recently been opened to the public.

The self-contained meeting space can accommodate up to 30 people, with access to a dedicated bathroom and break out area. The 60 square metre suite is suitable for small team meetings, or conferences for larger groups. We have also invested in a built-in plasma screen, exclusive to the area, for delegate viewing and presentations.

Coinciding with our 10 year anniversary, the substantial investment aims to provide additional and more flexible facilities at the venue. The latest refurbishment adds to last years’ launch of the business lounge, revamp of the Wyvern Bar, and renovation of the Stephenson Restaurant, Lecture Theatre, reception and toilets.

We have invested in sustainable technology and are leading the way in being one of the few hotels in the Midlands to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

 Working hard to improve our services for our customers…

We now have 14 charging points installed, making us the hotel with the most EV charging facilities in the East Midlands! We hope we can incentivise those using the centre to think more carefully about their carbon footprint.

We are committed to being an environmentally-friendly business and this investent aims to help improve local air quality and encourage sustainable travel. Several of our team members are already making use of the spaces and have invested in new electric and hybrid vehicles.

A chosen venue by Tesla themselves

The charging points have also been a hit with our visitors. Tesla have chosen Derby Conference Centre as a roadshow venue, making use of our facilities to charge their supercars.

With an increasing number of EV vehicles now available on the market, this makes charging an even greater priority when it comes to picking the right hotel and conferencing venue.

 Setting a ‘green’ example

We’re pleased to say that the decision further enhances our reputation as a ‘green’ hotel and conferencing venue, following the installation of a new secure cycle unit in 2015. The 15-space unit, along with the electric charging points has led us to receive the ‘Silver Connect Derby Business Award for Small Employment Site’, promoting sustainable travel to employees.
